Mactaquac Winter Triathlon and Fundraiser

February 22 @ 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Free

Reason.

New Brunswick’s ONLY Winter Triathlon!

  1. It’s FREE (for FTC members, so SIGN UP TODAY!)
  2. It’s FUN (join us for snacks and hot drinks afterward)
  3. It’s FOR CHARITY!

On February 22, the beautiful Mactaquac Provincial Park has kindly agreed to host a one-of-a-kind wintery Triathlon/Duathlon/Trail Run for us. This date also falls in line with the Coldest Night of the Year Fundraiser – a fantastic cause that raises money for charities serving hungry, homeless, and hurting people within our community. The goal of this event (besides having a blast!) will be to help raise funds for those in need. Instead of any registration, we will just ask for a donation to be made on Fundraising Page or a donation (cash or non-perishable food items) to be brought with you to the event.

Okay, back the club event: we will be “competing” entirely off-road, on freshly groomed cross-country skiing trails within the Park. Additionally, we will have several different race options to choose from so there should be something for EVERYONE.

Race.

Please meet at the Mactaquac Park Lodge at 3:30 pm to start setting up your transition area and to go over any last-minute questions and/or course details. There will be a room in the Lodge available for us for items you’d like left out of the cold and the restrooms are open all day.

Schedule:

  • 3:30-3:50 pm: Meet at Lodge and set up the Transition area
  • 3:50 pm: Race/safety briefing
  • 4:00 pm: Race starts
  • 5:00 pm: Hot Chocolate/Coffee/Food is available in Lodge
  • 6:00 pm: Races ends/Transition area cleaned up

Random.

Don’t have a fatbike? Rent one!
  • Mactaquac Park: $25/2hr – $40/4hr – call to reserve
  • Savages: $40/day (2M, 1L) – call to reserve
  • Radical Edge: $50/day (1S, 3M, 2L) – online reservations
Can I rent skis?
There are skis freely available for use at the Park, but they are the “over-the-boot” type so if you want something better, it’s best to bring your own.
Will there be any issues biking on ski trails?
The Blue route which has been chosen for the cycling portion sees very little traffic. Regardless, we have full permission to use this route and should not expect any issues from other park visitors.
Will these trails be groomed specifically for the race?
Yes, we will have the trails groomed at 3 pm so they will be fresh to use just for the event.
Where to warm-up/get out of the cold?
The Transition area will be right beside the Lodge (MOCO Mactaquac) and we will have access to the Pro Shop downstairs room for storing gear, getting out of the cold, and socializing with hot drinks and snacks afterwards.
What will all this cost?
Apparently, nothing! Although we would LOVE it if you could donate to our Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser. Don’t want to donate online? You can also bring a cash gift or non-perishable food item to be donated to the Fredericton Food Bank and/or Out of the Cold Shelter.

Can I bring a friend?
This is a MEMBERS-ONLY event, so if you’d like to bring a friend, that is fine, IF you can get them to sign up to be an FTC member first. 🙂

Register.
